North Ferriby Athletic Beat Town In Humber Premier League

Beverley Town Football Club went into this game on the back of an excellent 7-2 victory against Reckitts, but mindful of complacency against a competitive Ferriby side.

Town started very slowly, and this set the tone for much of the game. Straight from the kick off some poor play let the Ferriby striker in on goal, luckily for town his one on one with keeper Ollie Thane was dragged wide.

Town continued to struggle with sloppy passing and giving the ball away too easily, and Ferriby created some good chances on the back of this. None of them was converted and town felt relieved to get to the break at 0-0.

Town made a change at half time bringing Baxter on for Ben Fletcher in a tactical switch that gave Town a bit more balance down the left.

It was Ferriby that took the lead on 55 minutes, when a cross field ball to the back post was hammered into the back of Towns goal from the left hand side angle. A great strike that keeper Ollie Thane could do nothing about.

Town responded well and pushed hard to get back into the game. Ten minutes later Town were awarded a free kick about 25 yards from goal, on the right hand side of the pitch. Up stepped Michael O’Connell who drilled an absolute peach of free kick into the top corner of the goal, even though it went to the keepers side there was nothing he could do about it.

Town now had the bit between their teeth, Joe Baxter went close on two occasions, and Craig Muirhead saw a header bounce back off the bar. So it was a little against the run of play when Ferriby scored their second, a slight mix up at the back let the Ferriby striker in who calmly finished to make it 2-1 with 15 minutes to go.

Town now threw caution to the wind, with Aldo Hysenaj coming on, and also Big Danny McHale going up front in an attempt to cause problems.

Ferriby dealt really well the threat town posed, but with only seconds left on the clock town were to create one last chance.

A fine cross into the box by Michael O’Connell landed perfectly on the head of Craig Muirhead, who from close range saw his header glance agonisingly wide of the post. That was the last of the action and town went down to their third defeat of the season.

Manager Rich Jagger spoke after the game, he said:

“I thought we started very slowly today and that set the tone for our play for most of the game. That said when Carney got the equaliser (what a strike by the way) we lifted our game a bit and thought we could go on and nick it.”

“Fair play to Ferriby though they never stopped and defended well at they end when they needed to.”

Final Score: North Ferriby Athletic 2 Beverley Town Football Club 1

Pocklington Town Head To Norwood As First Plays Third In HPL

Pocklington Town will head to Norwood this weekend to face an in-form Beverley Town in the Humber Premier League.

Currently top of the table Pocklington has a four-point advantage over Beverley Town. Rich Jagger says that Beverley will be looking to continue their winning run while also aiming to close the gap.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match Jagger said;

“This is a big game and we have a real chance to close the gap between us and Pocklington in the league. They have lost their last couple of games so we have a chance to get within a point of them.”

“Over the next three weeks, we will play them twice, while we know it will be difficult but we want to win them both. Saturday is an opportunity for us to gain a physiological advantage over them at this crucial stage in the season.”

Jagger will be missing forward Ryan Saltmer for the match. Alex Stark has a groin problem while Nathan White is still struggling with hip injury. Both will face a fitness test ahead of the game.

Danny McHale will also be assessed ahead of kick-off. The central defender needed hospital treatment following a head injury that left him needing butterfly stitches.

Jagger will, however, welcome back Ollie Baldwin and Leon Dawson into the fold giving Beverley plenty of options up front. Joe Norton is also in form and is more than capable of finding the back of the net.

Jagger Confident His Side Can Get A Result Against Leaders Pocklington Town

Having won their last three-game Jagger is confident his side can get a positive result, he said;

“Games between us in recent years have been close affairs. We are full of confidence and will play with a high tempo and get at them from the start.”

“If we can keep a clean sheet that will give us the springboard we need to get the win. Given the strength of our squad and recent form, I am sure we can get a result.”

Pocklington will arrive at Norwood on a bit of a bad run. Defeats to Hornsea Town and Sculcoates Amateurs have seen their advantage at the top reduced to just one point.

Jagger says while they may have been beaten they still pose a real threat. Pocklington has one of the leagues most prolific strikers in Daniel Boneham who has scored 13 times this season.

Beverley Town can go top of the Humber Premier League this Saturday if they beat East Riding Rangers by four clear goals.

Town who are currently third in the table will host bottom club Rangers at Norwood. Beverley Town is the only side in the top three with a game.

Manager Rich Jagger, however, is playing down his side’s chances of his side ending the day in first place. He says while Rangers may be rooted to the foot of the table they pose a real threat.

Jagger will be forced to make a number of changes as he goes into the game with a number of key players missing.

Danny McHale, Michael O’Connell, Ollie Baldwin, Ben Fletcher and Alex Stark are all ruled out.  While Ollie Thane and Leon Dawson could also be missing.

Jagger knew the festive period would be a difficult time for his side. He has been hinting for some time that the squad would be key.

Ryan Saltmer, Nathan White, Declan Corlyon and Aldo Hysenaj will all return to the squad.

The mood in The Camp Is Good Ahead Of Rangers Visit To Norwood

Speaking ahead of the game Jagger said;

“Confidence and the mood in the camp is good. We need to go into Saturday’s match looking to build on the great result we had last week beating Pocklington Town.”

“While Rangers may be at the foot of the table we can take nothing for granted. They will arrive at Norwood with a spring in their step. I certainly think they will be well up for the game against us.”

“I have told the lads they need to keep an eye on them if we are to get the win we need to stay in the mix at the top of the table.”

Jagger and his side have already beaten Rangers. When the sides met earlier in the season Town enjoyed a 6-1 win over their opponents.

A repeat of that result would see them go top of the table with just one fixture left before the Christmas break.

“While this was not a make or break fixture it is always nice to win. I felt that we were once again very strong at the back. Danny McHale was yet again immense not giving Hornsea a look in.”

“Nathan White also had a good game. He has slotted into the left-back role like he has played there all his life.”

“Aaron Cramman has also proved what a talent he is between the sticks. Following his back to back clean sheets, he has a good chance to make that position his own. It is now up to others to challenge him for the number one jersey.”

Beverley Town Football Club Gaffer Happy With Front Men

Up top Beverley proved to be a real handful. Youngster Danny Finch had a strong game in the middle of the park.  Jagger was also pleased that, Larvin, who he signed from East Riding Rangers got off the mark, he said;

“Since he has arrived at the club he has given everyone a lift. He has brought a winning mentality and desire to training which is infectious within the camp.”

“I was delighted to see him score his first HPL goal. Given all he has put in pre-season, he certainly deserved it.”

Beverley Town Football Club returns to action on Saturday when they take on Driffield Juniors. Jagger is confident his side will be able to make it back to back wins.
